XLPE INSULATED PVC SHEATHED CABLES (IS: 7098 PART- I)

The conductor is insulated with a thermoplastic material, namely polyethylene, which is a linear chain compound. After undergoing a special curing process, the linear chain is transformed into a cross-linked thermosetting structure. This material provides exceptional electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties, including excellent dielectric strength, higher continuous current rating, and superior resistance to thermal ageing.

ADVANTAGES of XLPE Cables over PVC

  1. Excellent electrical & physical properties : High resistance to thermal deformation and the ageing property of XLPE cables provides higher continuos and short circuit current capacity of cable .
  2. Higher current carrying capacity : Current carrying capacity of the XLPE cable is about 30% higher than PVC cable of same size.
  3. Lower permitinity : Permitinity of XLPE is 2.3 and that of PVC is 7.
  1. Lower di-electric loss : XLPE has lower di-electric loss than PVC cables
